1. A Amount Sources

I really a lot enjoyed the A stage workshop run by @mrsouthernmaths at the MA Meeting. In the course of this workshop we utilized A3 whiteboards to operate on A stage inquiries. Each individual process had attention-grabbing methods to take a look at and explore. Rob has a website complete of A amount lessons, notes and functions. A wonderful instance is his coordinate geometry physical exercise.

And this is an extract from a single of his tasks on parabolas.

2. Would You Instead

3. Graph Intersections

4. Formula Sheet

A formula sheet utilised to be delivered at GCSE but was taken out in 2017, which means our Year 11 pupils would not have utilized one particular just before. But this year we have the temporary introduction of the a great deal criticised ‘exam aids‘, so @taylorda01 has manufactured a valuable resource ‘Assessment Aid Checks 2022‘ where students can practise producing use of a formulation sheet.

5. Venn Paint

I have not taught Venn Diagrams in 5 several years and following 7 days I take place to be training this topic to each Calendar year 9 and Year 10. I’ve been on the lookout at Venn means, and I learned this magnificence from Transum which I have now additional to my useful resource library. Venn Paint is not new, and it turns out that heaps of academics presently use it at both Vital Stage 4 and 5, but I know quite a few of my viewers will not have observed it prior to. There are three diverse levels in this interactive process, and the closing amount is really tough.
In other Venn information, I applied some of the superb responsibilities from Craig Barton’s mathsvenns.com when I was teaching sequences to Year 8 previous 7 days. They are such great jobs for prompting prosperous mathematical dialogue. See my Twitter thread for a lot more on this.

Update

I had a garbage begin to the summer season time period. My total spouse and children experienced a sickness bug, and at the identical time I experienced Covid. Thankfully we are all better now. I’ve experienced some attractive deliveries in the submit to cheer me up, like Ben Orlin’s (huge) new book Math Video games with Negative Drawings which is a fantastic and entertaining guidebook to maths video games.

I also gained my Maths Mr Males pin badges from Ed Southall. The Ramanujan character has generally been my favourite and I was quite delighted when I wore the pin to faculty and a college student asked me who it was, supplying me the option to excitedly convey to her all about Ramanujan.

In the meantime, my blog site experienced its 8th birthday which implies it is really time for one more a single of my annual Gem Awards posts. I have been functioning on this for a couple of weeks and hope to publish it shortly!

I experienced a superb time at the MA Meeting around Easter and learnt a large amount of issues that will be beneficial when I begin my new Head of Maths part in September. I attended masses of good workshops and was particularly delighted to get the likelihood to see Chris Smith’s plenary. He is a good speaker – remarkably entertaining.

Shout out to the crowd who had been out the night before the conference – what a funny night!

I’m actually seeking forward to the two summer months time period conferences I’m attending.

The initial just one is #mathsconf29 which is getting area in Kettering (the dwelling of mathsconf!) on Saturday 25th June. I’ve now composed my workshop – I won’t be able to hold out to existing this one.

I am also delighted that my faculty have agreed to enable me go to the MEI Conference which is on Thursday 30th June and Friday 1st July at the University of Keele. I am talking on the 2nd day. I typically pay back for all my own conference-going but I was brave and asked for that my faculty give me the time off and pay back for the first working day, and they reported sure! I bloody like the MEI Conference, and am particularly thrilled to see poet Harry Baker at the conference dinner.

So two conferences in a person week in June. This would make me satisfied. I hope to see loads of you there.
