NEW CUMBERLAND – A team of Hancock County learners not too long ago returned from the Nationwide SkillsUSA Championships carrying some new medals.
Abigail Roberts, Evan Logston and Rylie O’Rourke, graphic structure college students at the John D. Rockefeller IV Profession Centre, took second place in the nation in the class of neighborhood company in the championships, which had been held in Atlanta June 21-23.
“It was a main initiative this 12 months,” Dan Enich, director of vocation, specialized and grownup schooling for Hancock County Educational institutions, noted all through Monday’s conference of the county Board of Training.
The trio, along with college student Lydia Mascio, competent for the countrywide level of competition by profitable gold medals at the point out SkillsUSA competitors held in Fairmont in March.
Mascio obtained an honorable point out in the classification of clinical terminology.
SkillsUSA is an yearly convention which serves to showcase occupation and complex schooling. This yr, more than 5,200 pupils competed in 108 trade, complex and leadership fields.
This was the 1st time a team from West Virginia has competed in the graphic style and design – local community assistance group.
“I’m truly, actually proud of the young ones,” Elizabeth Walsh, the team’s advisor, claimed. “They are wonderful.”
Walsh mentioned the graphic layout plan is relatively new at the John D. Rockefeller IV Profession Center, and the county has substantial aspirations for it.
“By exhibiting their determination to excellence in occupational and leadership expertise, the college students who participated in the SkillsUSA Local community Service levels of competition are true ‘champions at function,’” she said.
Logston, O’Rourke and Roberts are 2022 graduates of Oak Glen High College.
Mascio attends Weir Superior College.
